A Social Service organization called "Selfless Movement Improving Life Everywhere – SMILE" was started on the 23rd of April 2001.

This Movement was developed with a unique concept of "NOT BEING INVOLVED IN THE COLLECTION AND DONATION OF MONEY" for any of its activities.

SMILE was founded by Mr.C.N.Paramasivam, a renowned Businessman and a Philanthropist from Chennai. He is the son of Late. Shri. A.P.Nagarajan, the well known Producer and Director of many successful feature films in South India, who has won the National and State awards several times for his excellence in filmmaking. Mr.Paramasivam's visualization of SMILE is as a movement that promotes VOLUNTEERISM. SMILE provides a platform for anyone who offers physical service to the underprivileged sections of society.

Over the years, the manifold activities of SMILE have drawn tens of thousands of volunteers from across the states to participate in several of its activities. So far around 100,000 volunteers have participated in the several activities of SMILE.

The Movement does not differentiate in terms of Gender, Religion, Caste, Creed or Language and it not only caters to the needs of the underprivileged sections but also contributes to the welfare of the society by taking up issues such as traffic problems, water conservation, environment and so on.

SMILE has branches not only in India but also in many other countries. SMILE has also won the acclaim of Universities like Stanford University, California, U.S.A which is one of the top most Universities in the World.

The fact that the concept of SMILE received a standing ovation at an International Conference held at Malaysia during August 2005 wherein delegates from countries like Philippines, China, Australia, Sri Lanka and Malaysia were present is proof enough to show that a lot more help could be extended to the underprivileged sections of the society without involving the collection or donation of money.
